WINTER HAVEN – Polk County fire officials are trying to determine what caused a fire at a local pharmacy.

The fire broke out late Monday night at the CVS on Winter Lake Road and Spirit Lake Road. According to an official at the scene, the first unit arrived to smoke from the eaves and they forced entry into the back room where the fire was located.

The fire was under control within a few minutes. Officials credit the sprinkler system for working property and say the fire could have been much worse if it wasn’t activated.

However, crews had difficultly turning the sprinklers off, which caused severe water damage throughout the building. Crews assisted by mopping the water out of the building.

Polk County with help from nearby agencies responded with two alarms. No injuries were reported and an inspector responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
